It was truly an honour to have been recognised amongst Australia’s leading lawyers and law firms by winning the Lawyers Weekly Award – Boutique Law Firm of The Year in 2020.
Our time may (or may not be coming to a close, we are finalists again in 2021) but it’s been one awesome journey, from a fledgling 16-month-old firm to the young business we are today, known for our strong vision, innovation, and energy.
But what have we learnt? How have we grown?
1. You only win when you help others win.
The top spot isn’t lonely if you invite company.
We use our platform to help others as often as we can. We are generous with our time, and in response, others have been so generous with us.
I also enjoy nominating others for awards (and we do it often) because we have discovered it brings just as much joy to see others succeed and cheer them on from the side-lines, as it does to win ourselves.
2. Good things come from comfort zones too.
If you’re on to a good thing, that feels good, and is comfortable, grow that good stuff! Don’t think of it as a limitation, but as the framework for ongoing growth and development.
At Balance, we do what we love, and we do it well. We are slowly cutting back on doing the other stuff (stuff that makes us dread Monday mornings). Hustle culture is so 2019.
3. The power and passion of the collective. The world needs more WE!
Too many law firms like to say they’re different to “the others” but this approach can be limiting and isolating.
We like it when people want to work the way we work. Why? One of our mottos is “be different – together”. Each one of us can make a difference, but together we make real change. We love working with our The Kind Lawyers colleagues and other collaborative colleagues from around the country to change the conversation about separation of divorce to one of kindness, collaboration, and respect. We don’t have any competitors after all, only future collaborators.
